Former White House adviser and Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump is emerging as one of the key figures included in the narrative of what transpired on January 6. According to a legal analyst following Rep. Liz Cheney’s revelations, Ms. Trump may have provided testimony before the House Committee investigating the Capitol insurrection.
Speaking on CNN with host Paula Reid, former federal prosecutor Elie Honig weighed in on Cheney’s revelations that included Ms. Trump. Honig explained that Cheney’s revelation means that someone in the former president’s inner circle has already provided information to the House committee probing the riots. Honig suggested that it could be Ms. Trump herself, who was revealed to have asked her father twice to call for his supporters to stop the siege.
“That phrase ‘firsthand testimony’ is so important,” said Honig. “It’s so telling because what it tells us is this is not just somebody who’s learning about what happened afterward, who was briefed on it, who maybe read a memo or read a readout. This is coming from inside the room, and people in that room were inner-inner sanctum,”
“Now who is the person? We don’t know. Could it be Ivanka Trump? Possibly,” Honig added.
This follows Cheney’s comments that the panel had received “firsthand testimony” on the former president’s actions when the insurrection was taking place. The testimony revealed how Ms. Trump approached her father twice, joining the many members in the former president’s circle, asking to call off the siege.
Meanwhile, Ms. Trump is also caught up in one of the investigations related to their family business. The former White House adviser and Donald Trump Jr. have refused to comply with the subpoena served to them by the New York Attorney General as part of the civil probe into the Trump Organization. The Trump siblings filed a motion to quash the subpoenas served to them by AG Letitia James, with their attorney questioning James’ motives.
Despite the motion to quash the subpoenas, a spokesperson for James’ office said that James is determined to get information from the Trump siblings, including the former president. “Despite numerous attempts to delay our investigation by the Trump Organization, we are confident that our questions will be answered and the truth will be uncovered because no one is above the law,” said the spokesperson.
